HOW TO MAKE STONE APPLE (BEL ) SHARBAT

According to Wikipedia, it is commonly known as bel, stone apple, wood apple, golden apple. And in English it is Aegle Marmelos. It is species of tree native in India. In India, it is considered as a sacred fruit, it is presented to Lord Shiva.

It takes about “11 month” to ripen on the tree and can reach the size of a large grapefruit or some even larger.

This fruit is eaten both fresh and dried. Here we are using fresh, the fresh one is used for making sweetened drink. Stone apple is a “gift of nature” for summers which is specially taken to beat the ‘dragon’ heat. 😉 This sharbat is also known as Bel sharbat, bel panna.

Research has found the essential oil of the Bel tree to be effective against 21 types of bacteria. It is prescribed for smooth bowel movement to patients suffering from constipation and other gastrointestinal problems.

Bel benefits in healing digestive disordersulcersheadachehypertensiondiabetes, and numerous other ailments. The ripe fruit works as a laxative but is not digested easily. Unripe bel fruit, on the other hand, promotes digestion and cures diarrhea.

 

Ingredients Required: –

  • Stone apple (bel) – 1 large
  • Water – 2 litre
  • Sugar – 3-4 tbsp
  • Roasted cumin powder – 1 tsp
  • Black salt – 1 tsp
  • Regular salt – 1/2 tsp
  • Ice-cubes – as required to chill

Procedure:-

  • First of all, with the help of knife pierce anywhere on bel or bang it on floor.
  • Scrap out with the help of knife in a large bowl

  • Add 1 glass of water and wear gloves and with help of hands mash pulp in water.

  • Side by side add water for sharbat like consistency.
  • Then,with the help of strainer squeeze the pulp in another bowl so that seeds are left in the strainer.

  • Discard the residue.
  • Also add sugar and mix it.
  • Add salt, cumin powder and mix well.
  • Add ice cubes and stand it to chill
  • Its ready to be served chilled.

To make a sharbat with little twist follow the below steps :

In place of 2 liter water, cut it to 2 glass.

  • Add 1 glass of water and wear gloves and with help of hands mash pulp in water.
  • Side by side add water for sharbat like consistency.
  • Then,with the help of strainer squeeze the pulp in another bowl so that seeds are left in the strainer.
  • Discard the residue.
  • Then, in bowl add bel pulp and 1/2 glass milk and sugar.
  •  Mix it for 2 minutes.
  • To change taste you can do this.
  • Add ice cubes.
  • Serve it chilled.
