How to make broken wheat (dahlia)

Dahlia is very popular in North-India and is prescribed by the physician while the person is ill or having some problem. It is considered as a soft diet and easy to digest while person is ill.

Dahlia has many great values as it contains lots of fiber, low fat components and if a one wants to lose weight- it is recommended by the dietitians.

As it is low in calorie and has high fiber and also low fat protein so, eating small amount of dahlia will make you feel fullness and thus, it reduces your weight ;).

 

Ingredients Required: –

  • Broken Wheat – 1/2 cup
  • Green split gram (moong dal) – 1/2 cup (soak in water 1/2 hour)
  • Water – 2 cup
  • Oil – 1/2 tbsp
  • Desi ghee – 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • Asafoetida – a pinch
  • Red chili powder – 1/4 tsp (optional)

Procedure: –

  • First of all, take pressure cooker and heat 1/2 tbsp oil in it and then sauté dahlia in it till light brown.
  • When dahlia is done then, add 2 cup of water and add dal by draining its water.
  • And at last, pressure cook for 2-3 whistles and off the flame.
  • In other pan, heat 1 tbsp of desi ghee and then add cumin seeds, asafoetida, and red chili powder. It will work as your tempering of dahlia.

  • Then open lid of pressure cooker after 10 minutes and serve hot… Can serve with garnishing fresh coriander leaves and with boiled veggies.

You can also make sweet dahlia. For this you have to cook dahlia in milk, i.e. in open utensil.

Ingredients Required: –

  • Dahlia – 1/2 cup
  • Milk – 2 cup
  • Sugar – as per taste
  • Oil – 1/2 tbsp

Procedure: –

  • For this, just heat oil in deep utensil and saute dahlia and then milk and cook till dahlia turn soft.
  • Then, off the flame and after 5-7 minutes add sugar.

Dahlia

  • And it’s ready… serving it by garnishing with nuts (optional).
